Biography

Dr. John Dinan is a board-certified Orofacial Pain Specialist practicing in New York City and Springfield, NJ.

Originally from Nutley, NJ, Dr. Dinan earned his undergraduate degree from The College of New Jersey, where he also competed on the wrestling team. After college, Dr. Dinan attended dental school at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) on a United States Air Force scholarship. After graduating dental school in 2013, Dr. Dinan began his military service with the Air Force. He completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at Joint Base Andrews (Maryland) in 2014, then spent several years as a general dentist at Beale Air Force Base (California).

While working as a general dentist, Dr. Dinan became fascinated by the diagnosis and treatment of facial pain and TMJ conditions. Seeking further education, Dr. Dinan was accepted into the prestigious United States Naval Postgraduate Dental School Orofacial Pain Residency. This training program is located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, our country’s flagship military hospital. Dr. Dinan spent 3 years at Walter Reed, learning to treat TMJ disorders and other chronic pain conditions in military service members and veterans, including many whose pain stemmed from combat injuries. Following his training, Dr. Dinan spent 3 years as the Orofacial Pain Specialist at Travis Air Force Base (California). His duties included patient care as well as teaching military residents and dentists across the world.

After 10 years serving in the United States Air Force, Dr. Dinan returned to civilian life and moved back to his hometown of Nutley, NJ, with his wife (Jen) and 2 young children (Laura and Michael). He joined the team at New York TMJ and Orofacial Pain in August 2023. He is also volunteer faculty at New York Presbyterian/Weill-Cornell Medical Center. He is a Diplomate of both the American Board of Orofacial Pain and the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine.
