Biography
Qiman Gao, BDS, MS, Ph.D., is a second-year dental resident specializing in orofacial pain at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. Dr. Gao received her Bachelor of Dental Surgery and Master of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Stomatology. Her curiosity led her to pursue a Ph.D. at McGill University, where she focused on translational research and pain management. Her research has been published in leading journals such as the International Journal of Pharmaceutics, Nature Communication, and Science. Dr. Gao's passion for orofacial pain stems from her research journey, and her ultimate career goal is to improve the quality of life for chronic orofacial pain patients using her clinical and research skills. She received a research grant from The American Academy of Orofacial Pain for her work investigating neuropathic pain with comorbid TMD during her residency training.
Outside of her clinical and research work, Qiman enjoys reading, playing Guqin, and spending time with her friends, cats, fish, and plants. She runs a Chinese social media account where she shares her knowledge of TMD and orofacial pain with a lay audience. Additionally, she serves in the Developing Countries Working Group of IASP.
