Biography
Dr. Hernández has a full time private practice and is a part time Clinical Associate Professor, Oral Medicine Graduate Program at the University of Alberta. She earned her Dental Doctor Surgery Degree at the University of Concepcion, Chile (1992) and University of Alberta (2005). Dr. Hernández also completed a residency in Temporomandibular Joint Disorders and Orofacial Pain at the University of Alberta combined with a Masters in Medical Sciences (2003). She has completed an Insurance Medicine-Medico Legal Expertise Program at the University of Montreal (2014).
Dr. Hernández’ research was focused on the kinematics of head and mandibular movements as well as the EMG activity of the cervical and masticatory musculature in simulated low velocity rear - end impacts. Dr. Hernández has maintained a referral-based practice focused on TMD, Orofacial Pain, Independent Examinations and Dental Sleep Medicine since 2005. She lectures on these topics to Dental and Physical Therapy students and at local and international professional meetings.
Dr. Hernández is a member of several pain and sleep organizations. Dr. Hernández is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain (2004) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain (2005). She was an examiner of the American Board of Orofacial Pain (2005-2012) and is currently a Council Member of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain (2014-2017).
